We’re incredibly proud of the talented musician and aspiring actress, Lauren Blower (Lower Sixth), who recently starred in Patrick Hamilton’s thriller, Rope, at the Little Theatre Dunstable (3rd to 11th May 2024).

First produced and published in 1929, and filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1948, Rope remains one of the classics of the thriller genre, and its themes are still relevant to the current day.

Lauren reflected on the production, stating: “I have always had a passion for acting and drama, so I was very excited to audition for the role of Leila in Rope at my local amateur theatre club. Rope tells the story of two men who attempt the ‘perfect murder’ by killing fellow student Ronald Kentley and hiding his body in a chest, which they use to serve a buffet at a party for his friends and family. Leila is flirtatious and sophisticated, despite her limited knowledge. She is Ronald's girlfriend but spends most of the evening with Kenneth Raglan, who is equally silly and flirtatious.

“My family have been involved with The Little Theatre in Dunstable for over 40 years, performing in lots of different productions from musicals to plays. In the past I have been involved with Les Misérables where I shared the role of young Cosette with my younger sister Imogen (Year 10), and Macbeth in 2020.

“In my third production with the company, Rope, I landed a role far different from my past performances. Despite being 16 at the audition, I tried out for a 20-25-year-old character, doubting my suitability. However, the director saw potential and cast me in late March. Over two months, I relished the experience, especially acting alongside older peers aged 17-50. It was both inspiring and challenging, but we bonded well and had fun. Working with my mum, who was also part of the production, was a highlight, as she's always been my greatest inspiration.”

Mr Stratton (Director of Drama and Dance) said: “We are immensely proud of Lauren, an exceptional A Level Drama student, for her recent performance in the production of Patrick Hamilton's gripping play, Rope. Her participation in such a demanding production outside of school not only exemplifies her passion for the dramatic arts but also sets a high standard of excellence and commitment. Congratulations Lauren, for your achievements and for inspiring us all with your artistic talent and dedication.”
