On Thursday 14 November, Year 8 attended a Women in Engineering event at Niftylift’s headquarters in Milton Keynes.
The purpose of the event was to offer female students an insight into one of the country’s most forward-thinking engineering companies, showcasing the variety of career paths available in the engineering industry and highlighting engineers' vital contributions to society.
Students took part in a range of workshops, including CAD modelling, assembly and disassembly of products, production and quality control on an assembly line, and systems and controls involved in operating lifting platforms. They also enjoyed a tour of the factory, where they observed the production line in action. A particular highlight of the day was a ride on one of the platforms, reaching 90 feet and offering spectacular views of the surrounding area.
The students had the opportunity to meet several inspirational female employees at Niftylift. Some of them had previously attended this very event, which later led to securing roles within the company. Others had pursued undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in engineering before starting placements or taking up permanent positions at Niftylift.
Overall, it was an informative and enlightening visit.
