During Thursday lunchtime, the Senior School was treated to a delightful Informal Concert, showcasing the talents of 16 students in a varied and beautifully curated programme.
The concert opened with a captivating performance by Kaila Hill (Upper Sixth), who played Chopin’s Nocturne in C# Minor from her A Level recital, a piece of exquisite depth and expression. The afternoon of music concluded in style with Avaani Katechia’s (Year 10) accomplished and evocative interpretation of Gerou’s Evening on the River, bringing the concert to a fittingly elegant close.
In between, the audience was treated to a diverse array of piano performances, spanning everything from classical composers such as Cimarosa and Lefèvre to contemporary favourites Adele and Ed Sheeran. Each performer demonstrated dedication, confidence and poise, making for a truly engaging programme.
Beyond the piano, the concert also featured some stunning instrumental performances. Simone Erwig (Year 8) and Izzy Morris (Year 7) delivered beautifully expressive violin solos, while Evelyn Howard (Year 7) and Isabella Davis (Year 10) impressed with their skillful flute and clarinet pieces. Many of these soloists are set to perform in next week’s Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech and Drama, where they will no doubt dazzle the judges.
It was fantastic to see so many pupils taking time out of their busy schedules, amidst lessons, assessments and lunch breaks to support their friends. The audience also included parents, former teachers, and even a former Director of Music, all of whom were treated to a wonderful showcase of musical talent.
There is a real breadth of performance opportunities at BGS, and it is fantastic to see the students embracing them so wholeheartedly. Moments like these not only highlight the talent within the school but also foster a vibrant and supportive musical community.
