Junior School

By Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

Year 4 were so excited to welcome BGS parent, Mr Balfour, to school on Monday to start their new Unit of Inquiry off with a bang!

The girls will be exploring ideas related to our Central idea - Energy may be converted, transformed and used to support human progress. Mr Balfour, an engineer (and Abbie's daddy), brought along an electric fan, torches, plugs and smoke alarms for the girls to dismantle and make observations about the mechanisms inside.

They discovered that some appliances run on batteries and some run on mains electricity. It was a good time to talk about how to stay safe when using electric appliances and gain a basic understanding of electrical circuits. The girls are now ready to forge ahead with exploring energy in Science and designing and making their own torches in DT. What a fabulous way to start our learning!

A big thank you to Mr Balfour and all our parents who support and enrich our learning in so many ways.
