Before half term and during this week, mathematicians across the school have been competing for the coveted House Times Table Bee competition trophies.
106 students, from Years 5 upwards and staff, entered the first round, where they had to answer as many tables as they could in one minute. All who entered earned a House Point, but only the top scores from each age group made it to the final!
Years 5 and 6 started the show off, followed by Years 7 to 9, then Years 10 to 11, the Lower and In the Junior School, the finalists displayed incredible courage and determination, standing in the hall in front of their peers to tackle rapid-fire times tables with confidence. Dua (Franklin, Year 6) emerged as the top scorer in the whole school with an outstanding 43 correct answers, securing first place. Sakinah (Parks, Year 5) took second place, while Mahnoor (Chanel, Year 6) finished third.
In the Senior School, the competition was extremely tough, with all finalists demonstrating outstanding automaticity and confidence. In Years 7 to 9, Jaya (Chanel, Year 7) claimed first place, followed by her sister Miya (Chanel, Year 9) in second, with Serena (Franklin, Year 9) and Abhinaya (Nightingale, Year 7) tying for third. Among the Years 10 to 11 competitors, Simrah (Parks, Year 11) secured first place, Mahdiyah (Nightingale, Year 11) finished second, and Hania (Austen, Year 11) took third.
In the Sixth Form, Martha (Franklin, Upper Sixth) and Danae (Hepburn, Lower Sixth) shared first place, with Moksha (Hepburn, Lower Sixth) coming in second. The staff competition was equally exciting, with Miss Beukes (Austen, Maths Teacher) taking first place, Mrs Patel (Chanel, Maths Teacher) and Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6) sharing second, and Mrs Nicki Smith (Franklin, PE Teacher) finishing third.Upper Sixth, and finally the staff.
It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and competitiveness among students and staff alike. A huge well done to everyone who participated. Special thanks to the Maths Department, the fantastic Sixth Form Helpers, and Mrs Howard in the Junior School, for organising this exciting event. Their efforts ensured smooth running across all heats, from rapid-fire times table reading to accurate response recording.
We look forward to next year’s competition - who will take the trophies next?!
