On Friday 15th September, our Years 3 and 8 girls enjoyed a day of team building at Ickwell Bury and Cople, respectively.
Our Year 3 girls enjoyed their team-building day at Ickwell Bury, Bedford School's nature reserve.
The morning started with a walk around the grounds, where the girls used their senses to discover the natural environment around them. They were lucky to encounter a natural spring, watercress and a heron. The girls were also excited to locate several burrows. They thought carefully about what might live there and the clues they could use to support them.
After a quick snack, the group split in two and completed two separate activities; natural art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy and den building with a campfire, s'mores and hot chocolate! This developed their communication, cultural and imaginative skills.
Mrs Martin, Head of Year 3, commented: “It was an excellent opportunity to see the girls forging new friendship communities and working as a team.”
Meanwhile Year 8 visited Cople, ready for a day of challenges, to push them out of their comfort zone. They learnt many outdoor skills including putting up a tent in less than ten minutes and cooking chilli outside on a trangia. The girls showed remarkable teamwork skills and adapted to every task.
Miss MacKenzie, Bedford Girls’ School Headmistress, was extremely impressed by the girls team spirit and commented: “The girls responded to each situation with an open mind, but most importantly adapted very successfully to the ever-changing weather conditions”.
