Sixth Form Careers

With the UCAS deadline approaching on Monday (15th January), BGS girls are ahead of the game and receiving a wealth of offers from top universities.

88% of the current Upper Sixth cohort applied to university this year, with 8% choosing to take a gap year, 2% choosing to apply for school leaver programmes and 2% applying to Art Foundation courses.

Of those applying to university, 47% have so far received offers from three or more of their maximum five choices and 20% have received offers from all of their chosen institutions. 5% of girls have already received an unconditional offer from at least one of their institutions.

Our girls continue to choose wide-ranging courses, many of which are STEM based, including Biology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Healthcare Science, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Physics and Wildlife Biology.

Mr Jones, Acting Head of Careers and Chemistry Teacher, said: “The reward for most girls getting their applications in early has been the instant motivation of getting a place at the university of their choosing or indeed having more than one option.

The majority of early entry medics and vets are still waiting decisions pending the longer process that includes multiple interviews. This aspect alone should develop their patience and build their resilience, transferable skills required in that career sector! We wish them every success.”
