On Sunday 21st October, Years 10 – Sixth Form students studying German travelled to Berlin for a four-day trip aimed at deepening their understanding of German life and culture, providing the opportunity to enhance their listening and oral skills.
Isobel Horsfall (Upper Sixth) summarises her experience:
“On the first Sunday of Half Term we landed in sunny Berlin excited and ready for four days of sightseeing. Although the excitement lasted, the good weather didn’t. By foot, S-Bahn and bus we explored many of the cities famous landmarks including the Reichstag, the Fernsehturm, Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery.
“We had time to try the Berlin delicacy ‘Currywurst’ at the the Currywurst Museum, as well as purchasing souvenirs in the Alexa Shopping Centre. For me, it was really interesting to visit the Story of Berlin Museum and find out about the diverse history of the city. Seeing the city first hand really brought to life everything I have studied in class. Many thanks to Frau Lessig and Frau Arrowsmith for taking us.”
Marisa Mistry (Year 11) said:
“The Berlin trip was a fantastic opportunity for me to explore the history of city and the culture through visiting awe inspiring galleries, tasting the finest Schokolade and visiting multiple museums.
“The history of Berlin linked to the GCSE History syllabus, which I am currently studying so that was very helpful to me. Overall, the most enjoyable part of the experience was the night tour, where we drove around the lit up city whilst listening to an excellent tour guide telling stories about each place.”
