Miss Coote (Year 3 Teacher)

On Tuesday, Year 3 visited The Higgins Museum as part of their historical enquiry into Bedford. In the first session, the girls became site detectives – exploring the site of The Higgins, Bedford and finding clues to the changing use of the land from Saxon and Norman settlement to Victorian industry and 21st century culture and leisure. They also examined buildings, archaeological remains and the landscape, looking at maps and models to build up a picture of the site from the evidence.

After lunch, the hard work continued into the afternoon with a session all about time travel! The girls explored the history of north Bedfordshire from life under the sea to the present day, researching the key moments in its story through objects and displays. They then created their own physical timelines, prompting some interesting discussion. There is no doubt that we are extremely lucky to have such an excellent local resource, which allows the girls to investigate Bedfordshire in the past and present.
