Erin Knight (Lower Sixth)
On Monday, the Lower Sixth Chemistry students set out for a day of interactive lectures on the real-world applications of Chemistry at the Emmanuel Centre in London.
There were a series of lectures by esteemed chemists who covered a variety of topics ranging from the amazing properties of plastic and how to tackle the plastic problem to a talk about the science facts that might have actually influenced Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which was published 200 years ago this year.
My favourite speech was called How to discover an element because not only did I learn something new about nuclear fusion and fission but it was done in a very interesting manner that inspired people and showed that anyone can discover an element and that there is still some about to be discovered.
