On Saturday, 12 lacrosse teams produced outstanding performances against St Albans High School at Cople Fields.
The 1st team were eager to steal a victory after a 13-13 draw against St Paul’s the previous week. BGS started strongly and always looked threatening in attack with Katie Lunn (Lower Sixth) showing particular strength and Fleur Leech (Upper Sixth) turning the defenders inside out with her speed and agility. After a strong, all round team performance, the final score was a 10-5 victory to BGS.
The 2nd team were also looking for their first victory of 2019, and after a tight game came out on top winning 7-5.
The U15A team dominated, winning 13-4, with goalie Eleanor Schwalm (Year 10) making some outstanding saves and Emily Fordham (Year 10) also having her best ever game in defence. She was first to every 50/50 ball and her decision- making was brilliant.
The U14A team had an impressive team performance winning 13-2. Amy Kneller (Year 9) was a particularly dynamic force.
The U15Bs lost 10-5 but put up a good fight against tough opposition demonstrating again just how much they have improved this season.
The U14Bs showed a true all round team performance winning 12-3. Emmie- Rose Stephens (Year 9) played particularly well.
The U13A team won 13-2 with Lauren Whitlock (Year 8) worked tirelessly in the midfield, demonstrating some super stick work enabling her to beat players with ease and create goal- scoring opportunities. The U13B team were in control of their match from the first centre draw winning 14-0 and Charlotte Coton (Year 8) was awarded MVP (most valuable player) for her speed, athleticism, and accurate passing to goal. The U13C team completed the hat-trick with a 6-2 victory and Durotimi Bey (Year 8) was given player of the match.
The U12A team won 5-4 against an unbeaten St Albans side and the B team also won 11-6. Unfortunately, the U12 Cs although victorious last week went down against a physically stronger St Albans team and lost 11-6.
