Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

On Tuesday, as part of their Into the Unknown Unit of Enquiry, Year 4 were thrilled to welcome Mr Jonathan King, who is an Arctic explorer and expert Inuit indigenous communities.

Mr King impressed the girls with his historical knowledge of Inuit communities and their traditions passed down through the generations. In particular, he focused on how mothers cared for their young and how the Inuit depended on animals such as whales, walrus and seals for food, clothing and boat making.

The girls listened intently and posed some interesting questions to find out more about the challenges he faced in the cold surroundings, and how he organised his equipment and modes of transport to reach the Arctic. It was a thoroughly enlightening visit for all, and the girls will continue to reflect and analyse the information shared with them in the weeks to come.
