On Monday, the Junior School pupils and staff enjoyed a full on cosmic experience inside a portable planetarium.

Pupils and staff stepped inside a mini celestial theatre and took a trip to the stars and planets. There were plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ as stars, planets and moons loomed over heads in the darkness: Mars rust-orange, Neptune an eerie blue, Jupiter with its pastel swirls and Saturn its icy rings.

Jumping from one planet to another and swooping past moons, the girls learned about the thin atmosphere of Mars, Jupiter’s 400-year-old storm, the possible seas of methane on Saturn’s moon Titan, and more.

More than just intergalactic show-and-tell, the planetarium is a teaching tool, bringing the solar system to life. It was an immersive experience for each year group, relative to their own lines of inquiry, which the teachers also valued and enjoyed.
