Mr Ellis (Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Manager)

Last Sunday saw the running of the DofE Bronze training day. The day is designed to teach the participants the skills necessary to have a successful expedition and include map reading, using a compass, food and nutrition combined with cooking on a trangia stove and rucksack packing including equipment for the hills.

Even though two girls per walking group have already been delivered a first aid course over half term, all participants are given more first aid training again on the training day.

The skills learnt on the training day will then be put to good use on the Bronze practice expedition, which takes place from the Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th May. The practice expedition gives the participants the opportunity to test their abilities in a real world environment, but with plenty of input available from the DofE staff.
