Tallest Tower Challenge

Junior School Science

Mrs Woolley (Biology Teacher)

Last week in the Junior Science Club, budding scientists and architects were given the task to build the tallest tower in 10 minutes, using only tape, spaghetti (uncooked!) and marshmallows.

The girls worked in groups of three and were also give five minutes thinking and design time before being let loose with the equipment.

There were great discussions about strong shapes and structures and all groups opted for wide bases with triangles involved in their construction.

The wining team managed to reinforce their structure more than the runners up. At the end of the lesson, the girls reflected on their structures, thinking and discussing how they could improve their designs based on what was learnt by the experience.

It was a great end to the Junior Science Club this year and if marshmallows are involved that usually encourages lots of enthusiasm!
