It’s been a busy schedule for talented triathlete Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 8), who is aiming to compete in the coveted British Triathlon Inter-regional Championships (7th and 8th September) at Mallory Park, Leicestershire.

We spoke to Gabriela about her back-to-back weekend triathlons, she said: “On Sunday 23rd June, I competed in the Cambridge Junior Triathlon. I'm now in the Tristar 3 category which means I race over longer distances, a 300 metre swim followed by a 6 km bike and ending with a 2400 metre run. I also compete against girls nearly two years older than me. After a steady swim, I exited the water in a respectable 11th place, however I managed to work my way up to 7th following, a good but tiring bike leg. I started the run almost exhausted as my legs were tired after the cycle. However, I managed to recover quickly and overtake one other competitor and finish a very pleasing 6th overall out of 27 Girls, and 2nd in my age group.”

The following Sunday, I competed in the West Suffolk triathlon. The 300m swim went well and I got out of the water having finished in roughly the same time as I have been doing all season. This was, followed by a long run (Almost 200 metres) to transition, where my bike was racked. The course had a few tight turns but it was not too challenging. At the end of the bike leg, I had a fair bit of energy left for my run, and I was 4th fastest in this stage. Overall, I came 6th and 2nd in my age group. I am looking forward to my next race on Sunday as it is my first open water swim of the year.”
