Sixth Form Charity

Miss Dawson (Biology Teacher, CAS & Service Coordinator)

Each year the school charity is selected by our students from a shortlist chosen by the new Service Team. We are pleased to announce that our school charity for the 2019-2020 academic year will be FACES

FACES (Family and Children’s Early-help Services) is a local independent charity offering practical and emotional support to children and families facing difficult issues such as mental and physical health, domestic abuse, poverty, child sexual exploitation and behaviour issues.

This year FACES were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which recognised the dedication and hard work of their staff and volunteers. We have previously supported FACES through our students and alumni supporting their Project Jane campaign, providing dresses, shoes and accessories for girls facing financial hardship to be able to attend their prom.

The new Service Captain Rea Pourawal, and her prefects, Ellie Simester, Hannah Tollman and Alicia Scheller felt the charity fit perfectly with the GLG campaign of Respect, and want to raise a significant figure over the coming year to help this charity to continue their excellent work in supporting local children and their families. With temperatures rising over the final weeks of term, the team sold ice creams over a number of breaks and lunchtimes and raised a total of £ £272.90, which is a fantastic start to achieving this aim.
