Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)
On Wednesday morning, the Year 4 girls gathered with their food packets, cereal boxes and drink cartons, to learn about nutrition and healthy eating with BGS parent Mrs Eggelton.
To engage the girls in thinking carefully about sugar and healthy quantities of food, the girls had to explore what would be healthy for Isabella, a rather grumpy doll, who liked to eat sweets and chocolate for breakfast!
The girls looked carefully at the information provided on packaging, and in groups planned a healthy plate for the doll. Although some of the combinations of foods were a little alternative, (broccoli, carrots and egg with salad and two chunks of chocolate) the girls showed their understanding of the need to find a balance of carbohydrates, fats and protein. They will now take their learning further by planning a healthy diet for a chosen person, and consider how food is fuel for an active life.
Mrs Eggleton said: “I really enjoyed spending some time with the girls and talking about health and nutrition. I think it’s brilliant that they are getting some basic understanding of the different nutrient groups and the importance of eating a balanced diet at a young age.”
