Senior School Art & Textiles

Abi Bradbury and Abi Brown (Year 11)

Last Thursday, textile students in Year 11 enjoyed a hands-on eco-printing workshop led by Fiona Balding.

Fiona is an experienced eco-print tutor who delivers eco-printing talks and workshops up and down the country. She prints on both paper and fabric and has been selling very successfully at county fairs and shows.

Throughout the day, we made samples using different techniques and media, all towards our GCSE textiles. The focus of the day was also about sustainability and using materials found in nature to create in our artwork. Only using leaves found in our gardens, hot water, iron solution and some string, we were able to create beautiful naturally dyed fabric samples with patterns and shapes from nature.

We also based our work on the inspiring Australian textile artist, India Flint, who is also passionate about looking after the environment and living as one-with-nature. It was an excellent experience that allowed us to be creative and inspired.
