Laura Ellis (Year 10)

Our Year 11 music students went on a musical journey on Wednesday afternoon and were left spellbound by a fantastic performance of Wicked the Musical at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London.

We attended a matinee performance of the smash hit musical, which encouraged us to explore the themes of friendship, trust and tolerance, the use of propaganda and the manipulation of public opinion.

Everyone was buzzing after seeing the show, as we all appreciated the talent of the actors and the amazing set designs. I personally was drawn to tears once it had ended as I was so engrossed by the performance, it was simply just breath taking.

Mrs McKinnell, Music Teacher said: “In the GCSE Music course, 40% is made up of a written examination, which is widely based around the study of eight set works. One of these set works, Defying Gravity, comes from Wicked the Musical. It is hugely important that the girls get as thorough a knowledge of the musical as possible, as well as experiencing the thrill of live professional performance.”
