Mrs Morgan (Senior School Eco Co-ordinator)
This weekend is the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch – one of the largest wildlife surveys with around half a million people regularly participating and submitting results of the different bird species they have spotted.
In preparation of the event, BGS students had the opportunity to make their own handmade bird feeders during lunchtime on Wednesday. The finished feeders could then be taken home to encourage birdlife into their gardens ready for the weekend count.
The group got to work making lardy seed pinecones and ornate high tea feeding stations, which any bird would be unable to resist. High tea feeding stations repurpose old teacups and saucers, which provide an attractive garden feature, as well as being a great sustainable option for re-using crockery no longer needed.
The session proved to be extremely productive with a number of extra feeders being made, and also placed around the school gardens for our feathered friends! So why not sit down, relax with cup of tea for an hour and take part in the Birdwatch too? For further information and to sign up please visit www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/
