Mrs Crawford-Smith (Year 4 Teacher)

For the Year 4 Unit of Inquiry, Year 4 are exploring the central idea, 'Rituals, traditions and artefacts provide a window into the beliefs and values of cultures’. This was brought to life on Thursday 16th January, when the girls immersed themselves in the Hindu culture and learned about the traditions and rituals. They will apply their understanding to other religions throughout the Spring Term.

During the day, the girls explored the important deities, the puja tray and meditation. They were also introduced to how Hindus celebrate with a focus on symbols and commitment. By celebrating a mock wedding, the girls were able to dress up in fine sarees and salwar kameezes, participate in role play and also listen and perform to traditional Indian music.

It was exciting to learn some traditional Indian dance moves from the Year 4 girls who are Hindus themselves. The girls particularly enjoyed performing puppet shows of the story of Rama and Sita and creating fantastic Rangoli and mehndi patterns.
