Global campaigners Asha Kirkpatrick (BGS Year 7), 12, and her 10-year-old sister Jia, have persuaded cereal giant Kellogg’s, to change how it sources palm oil to help end farming methods threatening to wipe out endangered orangutans.
After meeting with Kellogg’s and gathering over 790,000 signatures for their cause, the firm have pledged to source 100% of its palm oil sustainably by 2025.
The sisters first met with the Kellogg’s executives in 2018 to discuss possible changes to the way they source palm oil. The firm were so impressed with their committed campaigning, that they have pledged to work with independent non-governmental organisations that will monitor suppliers and invest in restoring forests and wildlife.
Asha said: “I’m so excited about Kellogg’s new plans, but we need to make sure they stick to what they’ve said they’ll do!”
Asha’s form tutor, Mrs Hoar, said: “We are so proud of Asha and Jia and everything that they have accomplished with their impressive campaign. Asha truly epitomises the values that we embody here at Bedford Girls’ School and we are looking forward to supporting her further.”
It is fantastic to see the girls using their voices to make such a positive change globally. You can sign the petition here.
