Junior School Sport

Mrs Tarrant (PE teacher)

This year, the Junior School Sports Day was slightly different. Being one of the highlights of the PE and sport calendar, we felt it was very important to honour this event. Therefore, we decided to organise Junior School Sports Week!

Our aim was to make the event fun, inclusive and still with the inter-house competitive spirit. During the Junior School lessons, each student competed in two events within their bubble. The scores for each event were recorded and individuals were awarded points for the best result in each House as well as a collective result for the House. Extra points were up for grabs for those girls who showed, good spirit, great technique or were helpful!

Events varied between year groups, but we were able to offer some events that feature in our normal Sports Day including sprint, rounders ball throw and the beloved egg and spoon race! As well as new events including, netball shooting, standing long jump and speed bounce.

A special thank you to the Green Kitchen who provided the girls with eggs (hard boiled to avoid mess!) and to Mrs Milton (PE teacher), who provided similar resources for those girls who were still at home, so they could still be involved and support their House.

It has been fantastic to see the Junior School girls really embracing this adapted sports day format, wearing their colourful House t-shirts whilst cheering for their peers. We have seen some brilliant performances from all of the girls, who have really pushed themselves to try to get the best result they can.

Mrs Mason-McLeod (Director of Sport) said: “We were delighted we could still go ahead with the event under the circumstances and would like to say a huge well done to all of the children who took part.”

The final results will be shared with the BGS Community next week.
