We are so proud of talented golfer, Roisin Scanlon (Year 8), who has had an outstanding breakthrough season under the current restrictions.

Last week, Roisin competed in the English Under 18 Open Amateur Stroke Play Championships and The British & Irish Weewonders Grand Final in opposite parts of the country, meaning eight rounds of golf in seven days!

This year the Under 18 England Championships  were held at Sandy Lodge Golf Club in London. Roisin was the youngest girl in a field of 140 players and the only 12 year old. The competition format is played over three days with 36 holes played over the first two days, with a cut of 40 progressing to play in a further 36 holes on the final day.

Due to heavy winds and rain, the first day of completion was called off. The wind and rain continued on the second day, but Roisin managed to finish the second round Tied-15th and made the cut comfortably.  On the final day, Roisin shot +2 in the morning which moved her up to Tied-12th with a further 18 holes to play in the afternoon. Unfortunately, on the final 18th hole lightning and heavy rain stopped the afternoon’s golf and Roisin finished in Tied-12th. However, she did not leave empty handed as she further reduced her handicap to 3 and moved up in the European under 14 rankings to 13th place (3rd English girl) and the leading 12 year old in Europe.

Upon completing the tournament, she then travelled to Scotland to play in the British & Irish Weewonders Grand Final held at Gullane No. 3 Golf Course. Roisin got off to a quick start and led by three shots going into the final round, going on to win her age group (11-12) by eight shots at the end of day two.
