Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

Year 3 were given an exciting provocation this week as a lead into their new Unit of Inquiry. There was huge excitement on opening a sealed envelope, where the girls were presented with a series of clues to introduce them to, and help them understand, the term chronology.  Photographs of key people and events in history were then offered to encourage discussion and the girls were able to use prior knowledge to make connections with and justify why people and events in the past are remembered.

Through this provocation, we were able to invite the girls to think about why this time of year is important across the world and to use perspective in what events are remembered at this time of year. They have discussed the significance of the poppy and have created beautiful watercolour paintings to reflect their understanding of this historical event.
