Many congratulations to talented swimmer, Amber-Lilli McCarthy (Year 6), who has been ranked in the top 100 (10 years and under) in her latest county and national competitions.

Amber-Lilli has been training with Modernians Swimming Club for three years, she trains in the pool three times per week and on land once a week, she also attends holiday squad training camps and can often be in the pool at 7am before school!

She was accepted into the competitive squad as soon as she was old enough to compete. Due to COVID, swim competitions have been on hold this year, until Swim England put together a National Virtual Gala.

Over 100 clubs competed simultaneously a few days before the second lockdown, Amber-Lilli said: “I was nervous before the competition but tried to focus and use the adrenaline to help me swim faster. I was shocked but incredibly proud of my results. I train really hard with both the school and my club, which can be tiring but it’s great fun, I can’t wait to get back in the pool to compete club competitions.”

Amber-Lilli currently ranks 4th, 5th and 8th in the county for Back, Breaststroke and freestyle, 25th, 27th and 51st in the East and 68th in England for backstroke and 96th for breaststroke.

Unfortunately due to lockdown she is having to train via zoom, she has three land training sessions a week with her coach, and like many other swimmers, she is itching to get into the water again asap!
