We love to hear how our students continue to pursue their passions beyond the classroom; and Alex Gentry (Year 10) has been doing just that alongside her computer science studies at school. Recently she qualified for the SANS Foundations Course.
We spoke to Alex about the course, she said: “I have been working on the UK Government’s Cyber Discovery Challenges after being introduced to the programme by my computer science teacher, Ms Davies, in Year 8, and I really enjoy working through the levels.
Recently, I have qualified for the SANS Foundations Course - an introductory course to the world of Computer Science, which is normally completed by college/university level students and costs around £3,000. However, I qualified as a part of the Cyber Discovery course and have until March to complete it for free. When I do complete the course, I’ll gain a certificate of competition showing my proficiency in multiple areas of Computer Science.”
Ms Davies said: “It’s brilliant to see that the CyberFirst Girls’ Competition led Alex to greater exploration and opportunities alongside her GCSE Computer Science studies. Many congratulations, Alex, and best of luck with completing the SANS course by March.”
