We are delighted to announce that Harri Scarr (Year 7) has been selected to join the Wales Lacrosse Dragon Academy, for Years 7 and 8, following successful trials during the Easter holiday.
The five-hour trial took place at Great Malvern near Worcester and consisted of skills assessments and matches with Years 7 and 8 triallists from Wales and England, she then joined up with the Years 9 and 10 players, who had already been there for a day. Harri who will represent Wales through her grandparents’ connections has only been playing lacrosse for two years, with the majority of her coaching coming from our very own coaching staff.
Harri reflected on trials: “It was great to compete against players from other schools. I am now looking forward to taking part in training sessions at the weekends and look hope to improve my game further.”
Harri’s lacrosse coach, Mrs Greenwood said: “Harri has worked so hard over the last year to learn lacrosse as a Year 6 and now as a Year 7. Being selected for the Years 7 and 8 Wales Academy is a testament to her strength, tenacity and willpower as a new athlete in a difficult sport to learn, especially with the lack of team practice time during COVID restrictions. I believe this has encouraged her to harness an already strong individual work ethic and desire for improvement to get to where she is. We are very proud of all she has accomplished in the PE department and we cannot wait to see how she develops as a keen lacrosse player in her time here at BGS.”
