The Bedford High School Guild held their first ever virtual Biennial on Saturday 15th May welcoming many alumnae based in the UK as well as from around the world to join the celebration. It was a lovely occasion of remembering school days and celebrating friendships, providing a feel-good boost for everyone who has missed seeing their friends and family over this past year.
Co-hosted by Guild committee member, Hannah Leggott (1998), and talented musician and actress, Carrie Rawlings (1998), the Biennial took on a different format this year. Many of the attendees have been part of a virtual choir this past month under the expert guidance Carrie, they showcased their uplifting version of Sing! during the event. The choir also features an outstanding performance by BGS soloist, Ellie Robson-Green (Year 8). Watch the performance HERE.
Additionally, Miss MacKenzie was the keynote speaker for the event, reflecting on her ten years of Headship at BGS and the legacies of the heritage schools and how important they still are today. Current Headmistress Mrs Gibson introduced herself to the members and talked about her passion for girls education and the importance of preparing girls for an ever-changing world. Other speakers included, Guild Chair: Jane Leech, who provided the welcome address, Former BHS Headmistress: Mrs Anne Kaye, Guild Chaplain: Paul Fricker.
The Biennial concluded with breakout chat rooms for decade groups and a virtual tour of the BHS archives, including the beautiful stained-glass windows that have been installed into BGS, reinforcing the welcome that Bedford High School alumnae will always have here at Bedford Girls’ School.
In 2022, the Biennial will be taking place on Saturday 21st May 2022.
