Whole School Rowing

Miss Bruce (Director of Rowing)

After such a long time away from racing, BGS boat club headed to the 2012 Olympic venue, Dorney Lake over the bank holiday weekend to compete at the very prestigious National Schools Regatta. This was a chance to compete amongst the fasted crews in the Country.

Despite being in the mix of a massively competitive event, our rowers held their own and gave some really gutsy performances. Our crews rowed well through their time trials and we managed to gain some prestigious places in side by side finals which really was the highlight of the weekend watching some very exciting battling down the course.

Our results showed that we really did the best that we could under the circumstances and have many positives to take away from the weekend, but more importantly showed us what amazing attitudes our rowers have. Our weekend has also taught us to keep working hard and to aim high for the upcoming years.

BGS really missed our amazing and loud community cheering on the side of the lake this year but the students were well supported by our amazing coaching team who stayed close to the water’s edge   for the whole weekend. Despite being a small in number, we definitely made the most noise!

I would also like to say a special thank you for all the parents for being so supportive, we really do appreciate your help in enabling the rowers the opportunity to compete at National Schools this year; it was fabulous to be back at a competitive event and has enhanced all of the rowers skills both on and off the water.
