Is it ever ok to lie?

On Wednesday and Thursday, 6BC have been engaging in debates about whether it is ever ok to lie! Through their studies of the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, some of the conceptual themes studied were ‘truth and lies’. One of the characters, Jonas, has been assigned the role as Receiver of Memory and one of the terms of his role is that he may now lie. The girls are evidencing why this might be the case in the context of the novel and are debating about real life scenarios where lying might be deemed as socially acceptable – or not!

The girls will be putting into action their debating skills, filming their debates then offering each other feedback on the inclusive and persuasive elements of the arguments. The students have to work collaboratively to plan their debate, creating reasoned points for their arguments. Do you think it is ever ok to lie?
