Year 6 have been researching different styles of artistic expressions from across the centuries, taking inspiration to recreate a bridge from the Embankment in Bedford in their chosen style.
Styles have included Pointillism, Realism, Abstract Romanticism and Fauvism, alongside many other styles of art, culminating in a gallery of creative interpretations of this impressive structure.
As part of their Active Inquiry homework, the girls have been tasked with finding out more about a societal issue that may be in the fore-front of the news and to find a creative way to express their ideas and responses to those issues through artistic expression, developing an original approach to looking at common themes and perhaps conveying their own message to draw attention to the societal issues in focus.
One girl asked: “Were there societal issues at the time of cave drawings?” and another, “Is abstract art really art?” and still another, “Do you have to have talent to be able to express yourself through art?”. Year 6 continues to think on a deeper level and from it, we are having fascinating discussions about the unexpected.
