With our commitment to experiential education at BGS, Augmented Reality (AR) is a highly immersive tool that we can use in the classroom to give our students experiences that they could not have had previously without the use of the iPad.

Before this, medieval weaponry, religious buildings, atoms and molecules would have to be presented on a 2D page in a book, now we can use AR to bring these objects into the classroom in interactive 3D for students to look at and investigate with the outcome that these experiences become more real and memorable for them.

Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles) explains more about the piece pictured: “The masks by BGS alumna Kate Sutton (2021), are made of wax with leaves and flowers within it. Students took casts of their peers’ faces - using mod roc and plaster, then they explored filling these moulds with a wide range of materials, including wax, resin, glue and clay. Kate was inspired by these natural forms, and later developed portraiture work with flower motifs.”
