Group 4 Science Projects

Prior to the half term break, our Lower Sixth IB students have been working collaboratively to complete their Group 4 Science project. The Group 4 project is a requirement of the IB Diploma course Internal Assessment. It provides an opportunity for scientists to get together in interdisciplinary groups to analyse a common topic or problem.

On Friday 15th October, the students presented their findings to an audience, where they shared their findings and answered questions about their projects. This week, we are highlighting a group who did a survey on peoples’ perceptions of climate change.

Hannah Russell said: “I think that overall both the making and presenting of our project went very well. We worked collaboratively, despite the fact we had not worked together before and had contrasting ideas. The most important thing I learnt was presentation skills as I was worried about speaking in front of an audience, however in the end it all ran smoothly. If we were to do it again, I think we should make a detailed plan from the beginning as in some of the earlier sessions there were times when we could have worked more productively.”

Sophia Hosseini said: “I really enjoyed participating in the IB Group 4 project and working with my group. We all did at least one different science and I was interested to see the different approaches we would have in contributing to the project. At first, we had many ideas and found it difficult to narrow them down. We were also a bit hesitant about whether they were going to work. However, we managed to agree on a hypothesis which we thought was the most suitable. It was from this moment that we divided the tasks up and worked efficiently.

“In my opinion, we could have possibly shared our work with one another after we had completed each slide rather than at the end, to ensure that we understood each other's points. On the other hand, I think that we listened to each other very well which helped to link our ideas. The project has not only increased my awareness towards the extent of the climate crisis, but it has also helped me to understand the most effective things that we must do to overcome the issue.”
