Junior School Community

Miss Coote (Year 4 Teacher)

On Wednesday 8th December, Noa, Siya and Larissa (Year 6 Student Voice representatives) helped to load the donations received from the Junior School community into the School Land Rover before heading off with Mrs Copp (Deputy Head of Junior School) and I to deliver them to local food bank charities.

Below, they reflect on their experience.

Larissa (6C): “One of the challenges I faced when running this project was encouraging the other students to donate a range of items before the deadline. We hung posters around the school to advertise the reverse advent and we also presented it in class. I had to use the ‘knowledgeable’ learner profile attribute because I had to remember the key details, the deadlines and the examples of things people could and couldn’t bring in.”

Noa (6I): “On the day of the deadline, we sent round reminders about the reverse advent ending. We had to organise the donations into boxes based on size and weight before loading them into the car. Some of them were very heavy and we had to work together to lift them and make sure that they fitted.”

Siya (6BC): “Delivering the packages to the different food banks in Bedford was a wonderful opportunity and a great way of developing my sense of responsibility. I felt like we were donating to very good causes and it was so nice to see how grateful everyone was.”
