Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)

On Sunday 16th January, 79 students from BGS Boat Club competed at Star New Year Head. Racing on home water, this event is a fantastic opportunity for the whole Boat Club to come together and compete on a course that they are familiar with.

It is always fantastic to see so much BGS support lining the banks. A huge thank you once again must go to the Friends of Bedford Girls' School Rowing Club, and to all parents, staff and friends that came down to the embankment to support our rowers.

With some of our younger rowers competing for the very first time, all rowers brought their A-game and competed well in their respective events. With 2nd place finishes across the board, and wins in the W J18 4+ event. Well done to Amy Wallington, Lydia Franklin, Rachel Gibb, Emily Coton and Tatyana Stockwell on their event win.

It was also great to see two of our coxes; Alex Gentry and Velvet Few-Wiegratz enjoy victories with Star Club alongside BGS, maintaining our strong links with local clubs and adding to their coxing experience.

We now look forward to a busy period of racing with Hampton Head and Bedford 4s & 8s Head before our half term break, after which we look forward to the pinnacle of our Head Racing Season at The Schools Head of the River and The National Junior Sculling Head.
