Following her success at the Anglo Scottish Championships in mid-January, alpine skier Amelia Atherton (Year 6), has continued her form on the slopes at the recent English Alpine Championships. Held in Bormio, Italy, the event is Snowsport England’s premier Alpine event and is the biggest English week of winter ski racing.

Competing against the UK’s best skiers, Amelia put in amazing runs and placed 12th in the Giant Slalom (9th in year group), 9th in the Slalom (5th in year group) and 11th in the Parallel Giant Slalom. Amelia is in the younger age group of the U12s and skied strong and with commitment in all races, coming in before many of the skiers in the year group above her.

Amelia reflected: ““I had such a fun time at the English Alpine Championships in Bormio, I was happy with my performance and I was really pleased with my 5th place position. I hope to get a podium place soon. I am now looking forward to the British Championships later in the season (4th - 8th April), which are in Tignes. This is great as it is the home of my Ski Academy, Apex 2100, so I am hoping for a good result.”

Amelia, who is currently a member of the International Ski Academy, Apex2100, which is based in Tignes, France, started skiing when she was 3 years old. From the age of 6, Amelia spent her winters in the French Alps where she joined a French Ski Club and would ski every weekend during the winter season with children in her age group.
