Mrs Lang (Head of PSHE)

On Friday 4th March, Year 9 were visited virtually by Nicola Morgan, the author best known as The Teenage Brain Woman, she has published a number of accessible psychology-based books to help young people understand how to get the most out of their teenage years.

In a fast paced and fascinating hour, Ms Morgan spoke to the students about their amazing teenage brains, about self-esteem, body image and peer pressure. Students then reflected on these topics with their tutors in their PSHE sessions, and considered how to identify their needs, and to develop the growth mindset necessary to flourish in every aspect of their lives.

Nicola Morgan reflected: “Almost nothing is permanent in the brain! Everything negative can be rectified and improved by good strategies and intervention. We often talk about damaging our brain but we don't often talk about its power to rewire when we step in with a good decision, whether to have a good night's sleep or be active each day...

“Sometimes I just want to wrap them up and tell them their lives will be great and their brains and bodies are worth respect. Such a stressful time and especially now when certain adults are messing the world up so badly.”
