Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)
Last week we launched the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition in Year 6. The Exhibition marks the culmination of the PYP and is a celebration of the student’s key learning skills as they reflect back on their journey through the Junior School.
The focus of the Exhibition is around our Central Idea, Global citizens take action for the future of our planet. Groups had to choose a global issue that they feel passionately about and then plan three Lines of Inquiry (big questions), which will form the basis of their Exhibition. In addition to the in-depth research that groups will do, there is also the opportunity to include creative pieces, data analysis using statistics and digital content. The variety of issues chosen by the groups is huge – including deforestation, gender equality, poverty, pollution, endangered animals, LGBTQ+ rights, sustainable fashion and discrimination.
This week, the focus has been on Student Initiated Action. Groups have been asking themselves What can we do to make a difference? How can we help? How can we make sure more people understand the importance of our issue? Action can take many forms including advocating for change, raising awareness of an issue, supporting a relevant charity or educating people on the issue. The groups have planned an exciting range of activities to support their action from competitions to teaching lessons to younger classes.
Áine (Year 6) said: “We are looking forward to sharing our learning with the younger year groups so that they can learn about our issue.”
Megan (Year 6) said: “I am excited about educating people about our chosen topic of World Hunger as I don’t think people know enough about it.”
Aisha said: “My group is excited to conduct an investigation to find out more about what people associate with different genders.”
