Mrs Baker (Year 4 Teacher)
As a culmination of their work on renewable energy, Year 4 were challenged to design and build their own ‘Eco-houses’. In pairs, the girls needed to use their thinking, research and communication skills to plan a house that would then form part of the class ‘Eco-street’.
In their planning, the girls considered renewable energy sources and energy saving devices, showing their understanding of their responsibility to preserve the planet. Solar panels and grass roofs were a common feature of many houses, whilst some girls opted for reed beds and geothermal energy.
English lessons provided the opportunity for girls to use their persuasive language skills, writing ‘estate agent’ style brochures to sell the wonderful features of their Eco-houses. We certainly have some budding architects!
