Mr Castro (Head of Swimming)

We are super proud of talented swimmer Olivia James (Year 6), who put in an outstanding performance at the prestigious IAPS National Swimming Finals on Saturday 11th June.

This event sees 40 qualifying galas organised throughout the spring term with more than 400 schools entering the competition. The fastest 1500 swimmers were invited to the National Finals at the London Aquatics Centre with 3000 spectators supporting and watching the events.

Only the top 20 out of 120 girls qualified for the 50 metre backstroke finals; Olivia had a great race and managed to swim a huge personal best time taking off 2.4 seconds on her previous time, which is a great achievement over 50 metres. Olivia missed the final by 0.03 of a second!

Olivia said: “It was amazing to swim at the Olympic Pool. I was really nervous before my race but Mr Castro really helped and supported me and I was so pleased to get a PB.”

Olivia is now looking forward to the ESSA relay finals this weekend with her rest of her team.
