After much planning last Friday, the Service Team hosted a rounders match with Bedford School and what a perfect day it was for it!
The schools, in mixed teams, played multiple matches of rounders with the red and yellow team making it to the final, ending in a draw! This was all in aid of one of the school’s charities United World Schools (UWS) – a charity that works in hard-to-reach areas to give every child access to quality, inclusive education. They partner with local communities and supporters around the world to teach the unreached.
Khush Shah and Tom Godber from Bedford School said: "It was a really enjoyable social event between the two schools that was played in really positive spirits!"
The rest of the Service Team reflected about the event:
Kimya Ghods (Service Captain): “It was really fun organising and running this event and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my prefects. Collaborating with Bedford School was a great way to socialise and spread awareness about UWS and it opened the door to have more of these events in the future. The event consisted of six mixed teams and once the games were complete the best two teams had a final to determine the winner- which resulted in a draw. The weather was also a blessing (32°c) which allowed for the ice lollies and cold drinks to be even more worth it! The total funds raised was £500, which will be doubled by the government Match Aid scheme to make £1,000, a great end to a wonderful event.”
Aafiya Alam (Service Prefect): “Being the first event of the year as the new Service Team, it was very exciting to be planning this joint rounders match. Our Service Captain, Kimya, stepped up to be a good leader and the team worked really well together. There was a great deal of preparation required to organise an event between BGS and Bedford School, but thankfully it paid off and we had a really successful event. After good reviews, I cannot wait to see what other events and fundraising activities we can pursue in the coming year.”
Nina Leech (Service Prefect): “Participating in and organising the charity rounders tournament with Bedford School on Friday was an amazing experience which allowed both schools to come together, have an enjoyable time and raise money for UWS, a charity which we are so passionate about helping. I look forward to more days like this in the future!”
