Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)

On Saturday 18th June 2022, the BGS First VIII attended the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta; the premier regatta for women in the UK. Each year more than 1500 rowers travel from across the UK and the world to compete in this prestigious event. Held on the world’s most iconic stretch of the river Thames, HWR offers exciting side-by-side match racing for junior, university, club and international level crews.

For seven of the nine BGS rowers competing this was their first trip to Henley, and with a young crew, it is an experience that we hope our rowers will strive to repeat for many years to come. The eight put in a great performance, and negotiated the course very well, missing out on further qualification by a matter of seconds. A very respectable performance that highlights how much hard work and commitment the students have put into their training over the course of the season.

Our first VIII returned to the Henley Course on Friday 24th June to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta Qualifying races, and we wish them the best of luck in their final preparations for this event. Our Year 9 rowers also compete this weekend, on Sunday 26th June at Peterborough Regatta, where there will also be the opportunity for parents and supporters to enjoy the racing at the BGS tent.

Well done to all students who have been selected for our Henley VIII this year: Alex Gentry (cox), Lottie Giles, Aimee King, Chloe Howe, Anna Beckmann, Olivia Smith, Emily Pinkney, Millie Partridge and Corinna Murphy.

We are very much looking forward to our Summer Rowing Ball which takes place on Friday 8th July 2022. Organised by The Friends of Bedford Girls' School Rowing Club, the guest speaker for the evening will be Team GB rowing cox, Matilda Horn. View the creative poster here
