On Thursday 7th July, the Year 9 historians and staff embarked on a one-night, two-day thought-provoking residential trip to Staffordshire to visit the memorial sites in and around Cannock Chase.
This residential is a poignant culmination of the work undertaken in History during Year 9 and an introduction to the Great War module studied as part of IGCSE course.
Read student reflections from the trip below:
Immy (Year 9): “I really enjoyed the History trip to Staffordshire. I learnt a lot about the Great War. My favourite place that we visited was the National Memorial Arboretum. Everything was striking, but it was also a peaceful place, regardless of the heat. Our tour guide was also very good as he taught us a lot about life in the Great War and about the trenches.
Aakriti (Year 9): “The trip to Staffordshire was really educational while still being very enjoyable. Visiting the cemeteries was incredibly emotional. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the World War One drills and visiting the National Memorial Arboretum – it was beautiful and really great to be able to see all the memorials.”
