Remembrance Day is a memorial date observed since the end of the First World War, to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
The School paid its own tribute with a thought-provoking whole school assembly today, which allowed students and staff to participate in a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month and an opportunity to remember and reflect on those who have died in conflict.
As part of our whole school tributes, the lunch time library club has been looking deeper into why and how we celebrate Remembrance Day. We have been using our digital research database Britannica Schools, as well as books and images to gain an insight into this field of inquiry. The library club has done a great job at making poppy decorations to display within the library and have also been busy writing their very own poems to commemorate those that we lost and how we can remember them.
Miss Kidd (Senior LRC Assistant) commented: “Carrying out independent research on a current topic allows the girls to gain a greater insight of any given theme and provides further opportunities to develop their independent learning skills and inquiry-based learning.”
