On Monday morning, three Upper Sixth students from Bedford School joined us to give a shared assembly about our service initiatives and their Movember campaign.
The Movember campaign focuses on men’s mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The charity can be symbolised by a moustache, as most participants do not shave for a month, which serves to raise awareness.
The assembly brought to light some harsh statistics, males are 69% more likely to commit suicide; globally one man commits suicide every minute of every day. The boys explained the different ways that they are raising awareness and funds for the campaign: teaching younger boys about mental and physical health; wearing Movember shirts; 5/5/5 challenge, which was set up by a student encouraging physical activity; having social events, such as an Open Mic night, tug of war and dodgeball. We also got to see a trailer for their annual MoBros video, which was very exciting.
In support of the charity, we collected donations at the end of the assembly and during Tuesday lunch, we set up a station where everyone could draw a tache, to help spread more awareness.
