By Mrs Arrowsmith (CAS & Service Coordinator)
This year, the Service Team has chosen to donate our annual food collection to the Bedford FoodBank, affiliated to the national charity the Trussell Trust.
The Bedford Foodbank is a charity which provides emergency food and compassionate, dignified support to people locked in crisis.
Bedford Foodbank’s volunteers work with referral partners to provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in our community. Last year, The Trussell Trust foodbanks in the UK gave food over 1.3 million times to people experiencing food poverty.
The items donated will really benefit others, especially in the run up to Christmas and over the winter months. The collection will run until Monday 5th December. This year, please bring items to the Balcony in the Assembly Hall during form time and break time during the collection period and place in the boxes provided.
Suggested items include:
Fruit Juice (Longlife)
UHT Milk
Breakfast Cereal (not porridge)
Tinned Vegetables
Cup-a-Soup
Tinned Spaghetti
Coffee (100g jars)
Teabags (packs of 40 or 80)
Tinned meat in sauce (e.g. curry, chilli)
Jars of Curry Sauce
Tinned Fruit
Tinned Tomatoes
Washing Up Liquid
Anti-Bac Spray.
Please do not bring: Pasta, porridge, conditioner or bubble bath as the Food Bank currently has plenty of these items.
In addition, this year we will also be collecting warm clothing. These items will be distributed to local charities which support the homeless in Bedford. We would especially appreciate (adult sizes) socks, hats, gloves, scarves, waterproof jackets (new or good used condition).
It has been an incredibly difficult winter for many, so if you and your family are able to give even one or two items from this list, it would be hugely beneficial and very much appreciated by someone else.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
