By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)
Last Friday, Year 3 went out into our local community to find further clues about the past, by investigating how people in Bedford are remembered.
As we walked along the Embankment, the girls identified several forms of remembrance, especially linked to our learning about the Poppy. We walked up to St Peter’s Green, where we found key figures from our community and the beautiful church of St Peter’s. Girls could identify that places of worship were a sacred place for religion and a place to think about those from their community that are no longer with us. We walked on in to the town centre, passing the significant bust of Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, a key figure in the stand against the South African apartheid. As well as many other forms of remembrance, we passed a gold post box, to mark the achievement of local Olympic gold medal winning canoeist Etienne Stott.
The girls were excited to share their learning from the trip and will use this information as they embark on their final project to investigate their own person of significance. On Monday 5th December, they will come to school dressed as their chosen person and will justify their decisions to their year group.
