We are so proud of global campaigners, Asha (Year 10) and Jia Kirkpatrick (Year 8), who have been nominated for the Green Heart Hero Awards Future Leaders Category. Held at Parliament on Monday 27th February, the awards ceremony shines a spotlight on extraordinary actions that individuals, communities and organisations are taking to create a cleaner, greener world, for us and future generations.
In early 2020, the passionate sisters made an impression on Kellogg's UK & Ireland bosses after they created a petition to save endangered orangutans, which has gained just over 1 million signatures.
After securing media coverage on their petition and attending meetings with Kellogg’s UK CEO and CSO, Kellogg’s pledged that they will switch to using a more sustainable palm oil product and launched a Global Deforestation policy that will help to mitigate deforestation.
With one million signatures, the young campaigners will have another meeting with Kellogg’s, this time with its global sustainable sourcing expert.
Asha and Jia said: “We are honoured to be nominated for this award, and are so excited to attend the event. We think it’s really important to keep spreading awareness about the horrific nature of the palm oil industry and to keep holding big brands, like Kellogg’s, accountable for their actions.”
It is fantastic to see the students continuing to use their voices to make such a positive change globally. You can sign the petition here
